What Year Was My Weber Piano Made?
(Serial Number Lookup + Guide)

DIRECT ANSWER

A Weber piano can often be dated from its serial number. On both grands and uprights, look for the number stamped into the cast-iron plate near the tuning pins.

Earlier American-made Weber pianos generally follow the published serial-number sequence closely. Weber was founded in New York in 1852 and later became part of the Aeolian and Aeolian-American piano groups. Later Weber-branded pianos may use different serial-number systems and may be identifiable only by a broader production era.

WHERE IS THE SERIAL NUMBER ON A WEBER?

WEBER UPRIGHT PIANOS

  • Open the top lid or front panel. The serial number is typically stamped on the cast-iron plate inside the piano.

In some cases, additional numbers may appear on internal components, but the plate-stamped number is the correct serial reference.

Important identification note

  • The serial number is stamped into the metal plate. Do not use model numbers or other numbers found on the action or interior wooden parts.

WEBER GRAND PIANOS

    • Open the lid and inspect the cast-iron plate near the tuning pins. The serial number is usually stamped into the plate, often in the upper treble section.
  • The correct number is stamped directly into the metal plate—not printed on a removable label.

DO NOT USE THESE NUMBERS

  • Do not use model designations.
  • Do not use action-part or interior component numbers.
  • Do not rely on cabinet-style names or markings.
  • If the plate number is worn or difficult to read, do not guess at unclear digits.

WHAT A WEBER SERIAL NUMBER CAN TELL YOU

A Weber serial number can usually provide an approximate manufacturing year or production era. It may also help distinguish an earlier New York-made instrument from a later Aeolian or Aeolian-American piano.

It cannot reliably establish the exact day or month of manufacture, the original dealer or owner, optional equipment, later rebuilding or restoration, or a precise factory during the later corporate-production periods.

WEBER PIANO HISTORY

Weber was founded in New York by Albert Weber in 1852 and became one of the better-known American piano makers of the nineteenth century.

  • The company made independent Weber pianos before becoming Weber-Wheelock in the 1890s.
  • In 1903, Weber became part of the Aeolian, Weber Piano & Pianola Company.
  • In 1932, the brand continued under Aeolian-American.
  • Weber production continued under later Aeolian ownership until 1985, after which the Weber name was used on later imported instruments.

Those ownership changes affected manufacturing practices and serial-number continuity, making later Weber pianos more difficult to date precisely.
