What Year Was My Hyundai Piano Made?
(Serial Number Lookup + Guide)
DIRECT ANSWER
Most Hyundai pianos can be dated approximately from the serial number stamped inside the piano, usually on the cast-iron plate near the tuning pins. The result is most useful for placing the piano in a general manufacturing era rather than identifying an exact production date.
Hyundai serial numbers were used across different production and export periods, so they do not always follow one continuous worldwide sequence. Use the complete plate serial number and select the correct piano type; model numbers and other markings can look similar but will not date the piano reliably.

WHERE IS THE SERIAL NUMBER ON A HYUNDAI?
On most Hyundai pianos, the serial number is located inside the piano on the cast iron plate.
The exact placement depends on whether the instrument is a grand piano or an upright piano.
HYUNDAI GRAND PIANOS
To locate the serial number on a Hyundai grand piano:
• lift the lid fully
• look near the tuning pins and plate area
• inspect the cast iron frame near the bass strings or tuning pin field
• the serial number is usually stamped directly into the plate
• in some cases, the music desk may partially obstruct visibility

HYUNDAI UPRIGHT PIANOS
To locate the serial number on a Hyundai upright piano:
• open the upper front lid of the piano
• inspect the cast iron plate near the tuning pins
• look for a stamped numeric sequence on the plate itself
• some models may use a metal serial badge attached inside the cabinet
• a flashlight may help due to shadows created by the cabinet structure
DO NOT USE THESE NUMBERS
Model numbers or cabinet-style numbers.
Partial serial numbers when a longer stamped sequence is present.
Action assembly numbers.
Numbers found on paperwork or exterior labels instead of inside the piano.
Plate markings that resemble a serial number but do not identify the instrument’s production sequence.
WHAT A HYUNDAI SERIAL NUMBER CAN TELL YOU
A Hyundai serial number can usually help establish an approximate manufacturing year, general production era, and relative position within known serial ranges.
It usually cannot establish the exact production month or day, complete factory attribution in every case, original dealer destination, or detailed component specifications. Hyundai serial systems are best interpreted alongside the piano type, cabinet style, and likely production era.
HYUNDAI PIANO HISTORY
Hyundai entered piano manufacturing during South Korea’s late-20th-century expansion as a piano-producing country. Its instruments were primarily affordable consumer pianos made for domestic and export markets.
Hyundai pianos are commonly associated with home uprights, studio uprights, and entry-level grands.
Many examples encountered in North America date from export-focused production in the 1980s and 1990s.
Production and distribution arrangements changed over time, which is why Hyundai serial numbers are best used to identify an era rather than treated as one uninterrupted global sequence.
Visual identification of the piano’s type and style can help support the serial-number result.
